Dianne Scheib-Snider

ROSE TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR

I am Dianne Scheib-Snider, Republican Candidate and the current Supervisor for Rose Township. I have faithfully served on the Rose Township Board of Trustees for twelve years.

My family and I have called Rose Township our home for twenty-nine years. I have raised my three children here and together we have been active in our community. We love the rural character and the natural beauty of Rose Township. For us there is no place like Rose!

I have gone to Lansing and successfully used my voice and written our legislatures to keep our taxes the lowest in Oakland County. I have testified in Lansing in opposition to bills that would negatively impact our local zoning ordinances. I continue to work diligently with DTE to get them to address our frequent power outages. In 2019 DTE at my insistence did 25 infrastructure upgrades and our residents are seeing a notable improvement.
I have created multiple committees based on the concerns and needs voiced by our residents. I also serve on those committee.

I will continue to serve the residents of Rose Township in the best possible manner going forward, I would like to continue as your Supervisor and would appreciate your vote!

As Supervisor

As Rose Township Supervisor, I support the improvements of our local roads. I was involved in the paving of the approach at Eagle Road at Davisburg Road. I have received calls in the office from residents with concerns and compliments about our roads. I work with the Road Commission of Oakland County and voice those concerns and we have discussions what improvements are needed.

I have cleared my schedule and gone to Lansing on several occasions to testify and oppose tax increases and local zoning bills that would affect our residents. I was successful in protecting our community from tax increases for services that we would not recieve.

I am hopeful that I can improve our internet infrastructure here in Rose Township. COVID-19 taught us how important that it is to be able to meet, work, learn, and teach from our homes. I believe we need more affordable, accessible internet services here in Rose Township.

I attend monthly meetings with a group of Oakland County Supervisors. This year I was elected to serve as the secretary to the group. It is a great group. We discuss important issues that are affecting our Townships and Oakland County. I always bring something back from the meetings to share with The Rose Township Board and to better our Township.

I have attended several trainings held by the Michigan Township Association so that I can better serve our residents. I was elected for a third term as the Oakland County Chapter Michigan Township Association President. We are neighbors serving neighbors!

During my first year of being Supervisor I was successful in improving our water supply for fire suppression. Water that would be used during a structure fire. In Rose Township we mainly have dry hydrants; a dry hydrant requires a hard suction, a dedicated truck to draft water to and a dedicated firefighter at the hydrant at all times during a structure fire. A fire suppression well does not require a dedicated truck or firefighter, which will free-up scarce resources. A well can supply water up to 500 gallons per minute and any department providing mutual aid can access the well during a structure fire. Better water access gave our residents a better insurance rating and a better insurance premium. Other fire suppression wells are planned for instillation in the Township. I understand our homes and the health and safety of our families is what we value most.

Rose Township celebrated it’s 180-year Anniversary in 2017. I created and serve on the Rose Township Heritage committee. We plan some fun events to celebrate our anniversary as a community. The Heritage Committee is still very active today planning fun and educational events in Rose Township. We had several events planned for this year that had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 social restrictions.

Our Rose Township Master Plan was renewed in 2018. I participated in the creating of our previous master plan years ago. The current plan is similar and addresses the desires and needs of the Rose Township residents keeping Rose Township a uniquely rural community in Oakland County. I served as a Rose Township Planning Commissioner for eight years and I have a developed a great understanding of how important it is to our residents to keep our community rural. A lot of the rezoning that has been approved for construction of housing has actually been to increase the allowable home-site acreage.

I have sought out a Professional Restoration Architect to develop drawing for the Old Township Hall Improvements. He works for the County and I was thrilled to discover his services are free. He and his associate have already made several trips to the Old Township Hall and our board is awaiting his recommendations. Several of my first meetings as a Township Trustee were held there and I love the history of the old structure. I also attended an all day work shop addressing the importance of the restoration of Historic Structures and I saw several example photographs of beautiful improvements and ones that had literally failed. I learned that consulting an expert for advice was the right thing to do. I gave my report to the Township Board and we unanimously agreed to hire Professional Architects for recommendations for our Old Township Hall. I worked with the neighboring property owners to obtain property so that the necessary fire egress and wheel chair accessibility improvements could be made so that the old hall can be utilized as an assembly building. I am hoping to move forward with the old hall improvements this year with board approval.

Parks and Recreation
As a new Trustee in 2008, I asked the other Township Board members if I could be the Parks and Recreation Coordinator and have a small annual budget to improve Dearborn Park at Davisburg and Milford Road. Dearborn Park was once the farm and Homestead of the Dearborn Family. Each year with the Townships Boards' approval I have made small improvements to the park and plan to continue. In 2016 we installed a few picnic tables and a bench near the gate entrance where you can change your boots/shoes. We also purchased a picnic table for Civic Park. Our civic park on Rose Center Road needs new play structures and playground surfaces. I hope to get board approval for those improvements. I have been inquiring about a disc golf course for Dearborn Park and hoping there will be walking paths in the future.

The Rose Township adopted a new Park and Recreation plan in 2018. I was active in writing that plan. The residents of Rose Township participated in a survey about park and recreation and that information is included in the plan.

A lot of the park maintenance is done by volunteers If you are interested in helping please give me a call.

I invite you to come to our Township Offices and meet the people who serve you. I feel we have an excellent office staff. I can’t say enough good things about our deputies and our Zoning Administrator and their professionalism. They are a class act and it is a pleasure to work with them

I would like to continue to serve the Township of Rose as your Supervisor and would appreciate your vote on August 4, 2020. Please email me at dsstrustee4rose@yahoo.com

Breast Cancer Survivor
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of forty. It was discovered during my first mammogram. I was raising my then very young, three children, and I had just accepted my job at the high school.
It was a scary time, I worked in between surgeries and treatment over a course of about two years. Not wanting to lose my family home and wanting to be here for my kids. I had support from my family and friends during the most difficult times and I will be forever grateful to them.
That was 16 years ago, I can go back there in my head like it was yesterday, but today instead, I am grateful that I can celebrate life because I am a survivor.

I was raised in Commerce Township, Michigan with my parents Charles and Patricia Scheib and my five siblings. Commerce Township at the time was very rural much like Rose Township is today. The sound of Spring Peepers here at my home takes me back to my childhood. I have lived here in Rose Township for twenty-nine years.

I attended Walled Lake Consolidated Schools and graduated from Walled Lake Western High school, Class of 1982. After High school I attend Oakland Community College while working as a goldsmith and later becoming a retail jewelry shop manager. I made this my career for 11 years.

I later attended Fire Academy and earned my State of Michigan Firefighter Certification and my Emergency Medical Technician Certificate. I have completed a Paramedic Program. I worked Fire Rescue here in Rose Township for about six years, during that time I taught Fire Prevention to our children in our schools. I really enjoy kids.

I was a Para Educator at Milford High School for twelve years, served on the District’s Safety Committee, was part of the Emergency Response Team, which I was instrumental in creating. I co-wrote with our police liaison and administrators an Emergency Plan for our students and staff that is now being used district wide as a guide.

I was elected to serve on The Rose Township Board of Trustees for three four-year terms. Two terms as Trustee and one as Township Supervisor. During this twelve-year period, I have attended every Regular Township Board Meeting. I have always been proud to serve our Township.

I am looking forward to serving another four years as Rose Township Supervisor.

I have lived in Rose Township for twenty-nine years. I have raised my three children here. I feel I could not have chosen a better place to call our home.

My oldest child Julia is a graduate of The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. My son Michael is a 2020 graduate of Grand Valley State University. My son Joseph is currently attending Oakland University.

We love our home here. We feel there is no place like Rose.

Community service
I have participated in Team In training twice for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. I helped to raised funds for research while I trained to represent them in a marathon.

The second time that I joined, I also took on the role of Team Captain, where I mentored a group of individuals who were fund raising for The Leukemia Lymphoma Society and participating in a marathon as well. I also was asked by team in training to do motivational speeches on occasions to individuals who were interested in joining a team and raising funds. My Marathon Times are not worth bragging about but I did finish both times. Most importantly I raised a lot of money and helped to represent a very worthy cause.
